Manasseh Azure Awuni Reacts to Corruption Allegations Against Former NSB Boss Kwabena Adu-Boahene and His Wife
Ghanaian investigative journalist and author, Manasseh Azure Awuni, has weighed in on the recent corruption allegations involving former National Signal Bureau (NSB) boss, Kwabena Adu-Boahene, and his wife, Angela Adjei-Boateng.
In a social media post on Monday, March 24, Awuni criticized the ongoing culture of impunity among public officials, noting that corruption continues to thrive because those involved rarely face consequences. He expressed hope that the couple would not receive any interventions from influential figures attempting to shield them from justice.
“People steal so blatantly from the state because they get away with it. I hope no powerful chiefs intervene for the thieves,” he wrote, emphasizing the need for accountability and transparency.
Awuni’s comments come after Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Dominic Ayine, revealed on March 24 that Kwabena Adu-Boahene and his wife allegedly embezzled 7 million in public funds through fraudulent transactions. According to Ayine, the couple used their private company, BNC Communications Bureau, to divert funds allocated for a cyber defense system contract between the Government of Ghana and an Israeli company, ISC Holdings.
Ayine disclosed that while serving as Director General of NSB, Adu-Boahene transferred the equivalent of 49 million Ghana cedis (about7 million) from a National Security account into the company’s account. However, only 1.75 million of that amount was paid to ISC Holdings for the software. The remaining39.5 million was reportedly used for personal gain, including real estate purchases.
The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) led the investigation, culminating in the arrest of Kwabena Adu-Boahene upon his return to Ghana on March 21, followed by the arrest of his wife, Angela Adjei-Boateng.
Awuni’s call for justice adds to the growing public concern over corruption within the ranks of Ghana’s public officials and the importance of ensuring that those who abuse their power are held accountable.
