Renowned Ghanaian gospel musician and supporter of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Isaiah Kwadwo Ampong, widely known as Great Ampong, believes the party will make a strong comeback after its defeat in the 2024 elections.
Despite the NPP’s hopes of breaking the eight-year governance cycle that has existed since 1992, the party lost the presidential election by approximately 1.7 million votes to President John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). In the parliamentary race, the NPP, which entered the polls with 137 seats, secured only 88 out of 276 seats.
During a visit to the Minority Leader in Parliament and MP for Effutu, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, on Friday, April 4, the musician encouraged disheartened NPP supporters to place their trust in God for a revival in 2028.
“I once watched a movie about David and Saul. After Saul’s death, a man came to David and said, ‘Israel has been defeated by the Philistines, and the Ark of the Covenant has been taken away, but the Lord has never forsaken His people.’
“This gave me hope, and what I want to say is that while we may have lost the elections, God has not forgotten the NPP. Insha Allah, 2028 will be our year,” Great Ampong said.
