Kwabena Adu Boahene, the former Director-General of the National Signals Bureau (NSB), remains resolute in his innocence despite accusations of embezzling GH₵39 million in state funds.
Mr. Adu Boahene appeared in court on Friday, March 28, 2025, for a bail application hearing. He left the Accra Human Rights Court in high spirits, despite being escorted in handcuffs after his bail was reduced from GH₵120 million to GH₵80 million.
When asked by JoyNews’ Latif Iddrisu about his confidence in proving his innocence, Mr. Adu Boahene replied without hesitation, “Definitely. I have not been charged with anything yet, none whatsoever. I will come out innocent.”
The former NSB head has been in custody at the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) since his arrest on Thursday, March 20, 2025, at Kotoka International Airport (KIA) upon returning from London. His wife, Angela Adjei Boateng, has also been detained in connection with the case.
During the court session, Deputy Attorney General Justice Srem Sai claimed that Angela had attempted to destroy evidence by attempting to remove suspected currency bills from their home and place them into suitcases the night of her husband’s arrest.
Both individuals have been ordered to report to EOCO three times a week, with their travel strictly restricted and subject to EOCO’s approval.
