South Africa: Durban Man Sentenced to 25 Years for Murder of Two Women
A 31-year-old forex trader from Durban, Lungani Mthethwa, has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for the murder of two women, Zizipho Gabisa and Anele Mbokazi.
On March 17, 2025, the Durban High Court sentenced Mthethwa after he pleaded guilty to the murders, which occurred on August 25, 2024, in Kentville, Sea Cow Lake, Durban.
The case, which had faced several delays, including postponed bail hearings in September 2024, concluded with Mthethwa admitting his role in the crime. According to court documents, Mthethwa and his co-accused, Sandile Chili, had spent the day socializing with the victims, treating them to a lavish lunch and expensive drinks.
However, when the women refused to accompany him into his hotel room afterward, Mthethwa became enraged. In a fit of anger, he shot and killed both women, ending their lives in a tragic and senseless act of violence.
Mthethwa’s plea in court revealed the chilling details of the events that led to the fatal shooting, and his sentencing serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of uncontrolled anger and violence.
