The Kumasi High Court, presided over by His Honour Mr. Abdul Razak, ESQ, has convicted and sentenced 36-year-old Dominic Afriyie, also known as “GH,” to 120 years’ imprisonment with hard labour for two counts of robbery, and life imprisonment for murder.
The convictions stem from a violent home invasion on November 20, 2021, in Atasemanso, Kumasi. During the incident, Afriyie, armed with a firearm, attacked the residence of the late Michael Dela Agbo Klu, a 43-year-old pharmacist and building contractor. He stole two mobile phones, an ASUS Zenbook laptop, and GH¢1,500 in cash. Tragically, Afriyie shot and killed Mr. Klu during the robbery.
Subsequent police investigations led to Afriyie’s arrest on December 31, 2021, following intelligence about a planned robbery in the same area. He was apprehended along with three others in a Toyota Corolla. A search of the vehicle revealed two pistols and two single-barreled shotguns. Further investigations confirmed that Afriyie acted alone in the robbery and murder of Mr. Klu.
Afriyie pleaded not guilty to all charges, but after a full trial, the presiding judge and a seven-member jury found him guilty. He has since been sentenced accordingly.
