Sammy Gyamfi, the National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has accused Assin South MP, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, of intentionally spreading false information about alleged drug trafficking and money laundering involving two aircraft that departed Ghana for Gran Canaria.
In an interview on JoyNews’ Newsfile programme on Saturday, Gyamfi criticized the MP for making baseless claims, calling them nothing more than political propaganda without any supporting evidence.
He also took aim at the Minority in Parliament for what he described as a reckless and irresponsible approach to oversight, especially concerning issues of national security.
“You have lied, and your actions have been reckless and irresponsible. If you had any conscience, you would be apologizing for this lie,” Gyamfi stated.
According to Gyamfi, the Minority’s press conference was not backed by verified intelligence but was based solely on unsubstantiated suspicions. He questioned why state resources should be directed toward investigating such unfounded allegations.
Gyamfi further pointed out the inconsistency in Rev. Fordjour’s statements. Initially, the Minority claimed to have intelligence about the aircraft, but later, the MP referred to the matter as merely a suspicion, raising doubts about the credibility of the claims.
He also noted that despite President John Mahama’s directive for an investigation into the matter, Rev. Fordjour failed to provide any concrete evidence when given the opportunity, citing the lack of an invitation to present his information.
This development comes as investigations continue into the two aircraft, including an air ambulance and a private jet, that stayed in Ghana for several days before flying to Gran Canaria in March.
Meanwhile, security analyst Dr. Kwesi Aning has raised concerns about how sensitive security-related information is being handled by some Members of Parliament.
